Andy Warhol who is said to be one of the key artists for the increased popularity of pop art in America. Warhol produced a large number of different pop art styles during the time that he was alive. He produced works of art such as the “Campbell’s Soup Can”. This piece of art was one of the first pieces of pop art that was made from everyday objects that are around us. Warhol’s work is produced using a photo-realistic which was a mass production printmaking technique called serigraphy to produce his commentaries. His work revolved around the US pop culture where he painted dollar bills, celebrities, brand name products etc.
A famous quote that Warhol told was one about the appeal of coca cola, “What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coca Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca Cola, and just think, you can drink Coca Cola, too. A coke is a coke and no amount of money can get you a better coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the cokes are the same and all the cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.” – The Philosophy of Andy Warhol: (From A to B and Back Again), 1975
Here for these 3 images I have changed my photos into an Andy Warhol inspired piece of artwork. I decided to make my photos into this style of Warhol’s work because I thought it would show how different each photo would look like with a different shade of colour for each picture. The piece of artwork that Warhol made using this style was his piece of work on a celebrity, ‘Marilyn Monroe.’
